Digital Wedding Invitation Tracking Compared: Delivery, Opens, Page Views and RSVPs

What each platform's documentation says its tracking reports, in the provider's own status labels, plus four worked guest situations and what stays unknown.

Greenvelope, Paperless Post, Joy, Bliss & Bone, and Evite all report invitation opens and RSVPs, but they do not report the same things, and the same status name can mean different things from one platform to the next. A delivery status does not prove the invitation reached the inbox, a recorded open does not prove a person read it, and a missing open does not prove the message failed. This guide compares what each platform's documentation says its tracking reports.

The scope is reporting only. For the full shortlist covering design, guest experience, and pricing, see our comparison of the best digital wedding invitation platforms; for what to do when a guest says nothing arrived, our guide to keeping digital invitations out of spam carries the recovery workflow.

Editorial disclosure: Greenvelope publishes this guide and is one of the platforms included. The comparison is based on each company's published documentation, reviewed on October 26, 2026, not on hands-on delivery testing. Competitors did not pay to be included, and this article uses no affiliate links. Documentation can change, so confirm current details with the platform.

At a Glance

  • Status names are not interchangeable: Paperless Post's Sent means the recipient's server accepted the message, while Joy's Sent means queued or on its way and Delivered means it reached the carrier
  • Paperless Post distinguishes message-open and event-page-view statuses, and Bliss & Bone reports email opens and clicks separately; Greenvelope, Joy, and Evite each document a single recorded open or view
  • A recorded open is an automatic signal: Paperless Post documents privacy settings that can trigger one without a real open, and Bliss & Bone documents real opens lost to blocked pixels
  • A general public link does not, by itself, establish who received it; link visitors enter reporting when they register or respond

Which digital wedding invitation platforms track opens and RSVPs?

All five do, in different shapes. Paperless Post explicitly separates Email/Text opened from Page viewed; Bliss & Bone separately reports email opens and clicks, alongside delivered and bounced dots. Joy reports delivery per method, with a Viewed status on Premium card links and a CSV guest list export. Greenvelope provides a recorded open status and per-contact activity history, with individual RSVP answers on the Track step. Evite keeps a Viewed status, an Undelivered flag, and a guest list download.

Greenvelope is this guide's recommendation for couples who want the designed wedding invitation and the reply reporting in the same place; its profile and the recommendations below set out why.

How we compared the documentation

We reviewed each provider's official help documentation and product FAQs on delivery statuses, open and view tracking, RSVP management, guest history, and exports, on October 26, 2026. We did not send test invitations, measure inbox placement, or observe guest behavior, and where a provider's documentation does not describe a feature, the tables say so rather than concluding it does not exist. Sources are listed under the first table and linked beside the claims they support.

What each platform's tracking reports

The table uses each provider's own labels. The rows that matter most are the second and third: whether the platform separates the delivery message being opened from the invitation being viewed.

Sources, all reviewed October 26, 2026. Greenvelope: View Opened Cards, View Guest History, Track RSVPs, Export, FAQ. Paperless Post: Tracking Page statuses, Tracking Responses, Guest Actions. Joy: Sent Messages, Digital Cards, RSVP Responses, Guest List Export. Bliss & Bone: Manage + Track, Follow Up, Deliverability, Website RSVP. Evite: Viewed Status, Undelivered Status, Host Edit Response, Messages, Reminders, Guest List Download.

Greenvelope: one open status, a full guest record behind it

Greenvelope organizes reporting around the guest record rather than a status ladder. The Opened list sits under the Send step, undeliverable cards have their own view, and each contact row opens a guest history showing when the card was sent and opened and when the RSVP was submitted. Per-guest delivery status covers sends by email or text message.

The RSVP side carries the detail: responses are recorded on the Track step per named guest, household members included, with meals and custom answers beside each reply, and scheduled reminder emails for contacts who have not responded. The documented export covers guest details and RSVP answers in Excel or CSV for vendor handoff, with the activity views and reminder tools used to manage follow-up. Two scope points: RSVP functionality is included in Greenvelope's invitation packages, so a save the date carries no RSVP tracking; and the reviewed documentation does not distinguish message opens from invitation views.

Paperless Post: message opens and page views as separate statuses

Paperless Post publishes a full ladder for direct sends: Sending, Sent, Email/Text opened, Page viewed, then Attending or Regrets, with Bounced, Undeliverable, Sending Failed, and Unsubscribed on the failure and opt-out paths. Sent means the card was accepted by the recipient's server.

Email/Text opened means the delivery message was opened; Page viewed means the guest clicked through to the event page, which its documentation calls the more reliable signal because some privacy settings can trigger the opened status automatically. It also documents an automatic re-send to recipients who have not opened after two to three days, once per event, and a guest details panel recording when each recipient received, opened, and replied. These statuses apply to direct sends; a shared link carries no opened or viewed tracking.

Joy: delivery reported per method, opens on card links

Joy's tracking page defines Sent as queued or on its way and Delivered as the message reaching the carrier. When a card goes out by both email and text, each method appears as its own row, with a side panel holding every delivery attempt and its timeline.

Viewed counts opens of a guest's unique card link and is documented for Premium Digital Cards; Basic emailed personalized cards also report opens in the guest list, though that page does not name the status or state its trigger. Replies land on the guest list, where families can be grouped into parties with one person replying for the group, hosts can edit answers directly, meals included, and the full list or a selection exports to CSV. Statuses can lag an hour, and resends through the host's own apps do not appear in Joy's tracking dashboard.

Bliss & Bone: opens and clicks as separate dots

Bliss & Bone's Manage + Track screen shows a status dot per guest, delivered in grey, opened in black, clicked in green, bounced in red, with an Email Activity section listing the timestamps behind each, and RSVPs reported as attending, not attending, or not replied. The documentation does not define what the click records, so read opened and clicked as two email signals rather than a page-view status. Hosts can edit reply details in the guest row or copy a guest's personal link for a manual resend.

Its free Follow Up tool targets on different criteria depending on the send. When the Online Card collects RSVPs, hosts email guests who have replied or guests who have not. When the card does not collect RSVPs, targeting is by email-open status. And when replies are collected on a Bliss & Bone wedding website, a separate product, the Online Cards tool does not receive those responses, so it can again only target by email-open status, while a website RSVP export is documented and a standalone Online Cards export was not established by the reviewed sources. Its deliverability page states that blocked tracking pixels make the opened status imperfect and that no sender can see which folder a delivered email reached.

Evite: a Viewed status, an Undelivered flag, and a download

Evite's reporting centers on two signals: Viewed appears next to a guest's name once they view the invitation, and Undelivered guests surface in red at the top of the list, with typos, dead mailboxes, corporate filters, and opt-outs named as causes. Hosts edit the contact and resend, or, with no alternate address, remove that guest and share the link directly.

Follow-up runs through two tools that reach different people: the Messages feature can target everyone, attending, declined, or just the guests who have not responded, while automatic reminders go to all invited guests except those marked not attending, so attending and maybe guests receive them too. Hosts can edit a guest's RSVP without notifying them, and the guest list download carries name, contact details, RSVP status, party number, and any comment. A per-guest event history is not described in the documentation reviewed.

What a tracking status actually tells you

Read every delivery label by its own provider's definition. Paperless Post's Sent means the recipient's server accepted the card; Joy's Sent means queued or on its way, with Delivered meaning it reached the carrier. Treat the absence of a recorded bounce as the absence of a recorded failure, never as proof of delivery, and remember that acceptance says nothing about placement: Gmail's Promotions tab is an inbox category rather than spam, and no sender sees which folder a delivered email reached.

A recorded open is an automatic signal, not proof anyone read the invitation, and it can fail in both directions, as the Paperless Post and Bliss & Bone caveats above show. Both belong to email open tracking; the pages reviewed do not extend them to text messages, link clicks, or page views. Statuses also attach to the contact or household the mailing was addressed to, so activity on a shared household invitation does not identify which member acted.

Two distinctions are easy to blur. Email and text message are delivery methods, reported separately because a text passes through carrier handling rather than a mail server. Personalized and public links are link types: a personalized link belongs to one contact and connects to their reply, while a public link is tied to nobody. A personalized link can also be passed along through another channel, and whether that send and the activity after it are tracked depends on the platform. The claim that holds across all five is narrower: a public link does not, by itself, establish who received it.

Key Takeaway: statuses tell you where to look and whom to ask. The recovery steps are in the spam and deliverability guide.

Four guest situations, compared across platforms

These are selected illustrations built from the providers' documentation rather than observed events. Each row states what a host can know, what stays unknown, and the action available; where a provider's documentation is silent, the row says so.

The situationWhat the host can knowWhat stays unknownThe report or action available
A direct invitation to Maya bouncesThe send failed by that platform's definition: Undeliverable on Greenvelope, Bounced or Undeliverable on Paperless Post, Failed on Joy, a red dot on Bliss & Bone, an Undelivered flag on EviteWhether the address is wrong or the mailbox refused mail temporarily, until the host checks the reasonAll five document correcting the contact and resending. Evite's fallback is removing an undelivered guest with no alternate address and sharing the link; Bliss & Bone charges another send only when the original reached a valid but wrong address
Jordan's invitation shows a recorded open, but no RSVP arrivesAn open or view was recorded: Opened on Greenvelope and Bliss & Bone, Email/Text opened or Page viewed on Paperless Post, Viewed on Joy Premium cards and Evite. Paperless Post separates the message open from the page view; Bliss & Bone records opens and clicks as separate dotsWhether Jordan read it, since some email opens register automatically; which member of a household acted on a shared invitation; and why no reply has comeGreenvelope's scheduled reminders reach contacts who have not responded, and Evite's Messages can target non-responders. Bliss & Bone can target non-responders when the Online Card collects RSVPs; when replies are collected on its wedding website, the card's email-open filter cannot identify which guests have already responded
A visitor opens the public shareable link but is not on the guest listNo named recipient record. On Greenvelope, public-link guests register and then appear in the guest list; on Paperless Post, link guests appear only after they RSVP, with no open or view tracking on a shared link; Joy's free shared link collects RSVPs with no documented delivery or open dataWho received the link, how many people hold it, and which of them has not repliedWatch registrations as they arrive and check them against the named guest list before any count goes out
Priya, confirmed with salmon, switches to the vegetarian mealThe updated answer once recorded. Greenvelope's FAQ describes an event setting that lets a guest change their response, guest count, or meal before the deadline. Host editing of meals or custom answers is documented for Greenvelope (Track step), Joy (guest list), and Paperless Post (guest details panel); Bliss & Bone documents editing reply details in the guest row. Evite documents attendance and guest-count edits, and changing a submitted meal-poll answer is unverifiedWhether the caterer's count already went out with the old answerUpdate the record, recheck the tally, and send a fresh dated export where it carries the meal answers: Greenvelope's does, while Evite's download lists status, party number, comments

Two practical consequences follow. Recorded engagement has to be interpreted rather than acted on literally, so the next step on an opened-but-silent guest is a reminder aimed at the people who have not replied, with the wording in our RSVP reminder templates. And an export is a copy, not a live connection, so a reply that changes after handoff means a fresh file to the caterer, the reconciliation pass covered in our wedding guest list management guide.

Which platform's reporting fits your wedding

Greenvelope is this guide's recommendation for couples who want the documented combination of a per-guest history of sent, opened, and submitted, individual RSVP answers with meals and custom questions against each named guest, reminders aimed at contacts who have not responded, and an export of guest details and RSVP answers for the caterer. Our online RSVP guide covers the setup, and the wedding designs that carry it are part of the same send.

Paperless Post suits a buyer whose main question is whether a guest opened the email or actually reached the invitation page, since Email/Text opened and Page viewed answer that directly, with the privacy caveat its documentation supplies.

Joy fits a list that mixes email and text contacts: delivery per method, attempt timelines, party grouping for households, host-editable answers, and a CSV export.

Bliss & Bone reports opens and clicks as separate signals with timestamped activity per guest, and its free Follow Up targets by RSVP status when the Online Card collects the replies, by email-open status otherwise.

Evite covers the basics: a Viewed status, an Undelivered flag, host-editable RSVPs, recipient-filtered Messages for non-responders, and an export with party counts.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which digital wedding invitation platforms track opens and RSVPs?

Greenvelope, Paperless Post, Joy, Bliss and Bone, and Evite all do, in different shapes. Paperless Post explicitly separates Email/Text opened from Page viewed; Bliss and Bone separately reports email opens and clicks, alongside delivered and bounced dots. Joy reports delivery per method, with a Viewed status on Premium card links and a CSV export. Greenvelope provides a recorded open status and per-contact activity history, with individual RSVP answers on the Track step. Evite keeps a Viewed status, an Undelivered flag, and a guest list download.

Does a Sent or Delivered status mean my wedding invitation reached the inbox?

Not necessarily, and the words mean different things by platform: Paperless Post defines Sent as acceptance by the recipient's server, while Joy defines Sent as queued or on its way and Delivered as the message reaching the carrier. No status shows which folder an email landed in, so an accepted invitation can still sit in a Promotions tab or a workplace quarantine. Read the status by that platform's own definition, then have the guest search their mailbox for the event or sender name.

What is the difference between a message open and an invitation page view?

A message open means the delivery email or text was opened; a page view means the guest clicked through to the invitation or event page itself. Paperless Post documents the two as separate statuses, Email/Text opened and Page viewed, and notes that privacy settings can trigger the opened status automatically, which is why it calls Page viewed more reliable. Bliss and Bone reports opens and clicks as separate dots without defining what the click opens. Greenvelope documents one recorded open status; the reviewed documentation does not distinguish message opens from invitation views. Joy's Viewed counts opens of a unique card link on Premium Digital Cards, and Evite shows a single Viewed status.

Can I see who received my shareable invitation link?

No. A general public link is not tied to any one guest, so it does not, by itself, establish who received it or show which of those people has not replied. On Greenvelope, public-link guests register and then appear in the guest list; on Paperless Post, link guests appear on the tracking page only after they RSVP, with no opened or viewed tracking on a shared link. A personalized link is different, since it belongs to one contact and connects to their reply, but it can also be passed along through another channel, and whether that send and the activity after it are tracked depends on the platform. For a restricted list, keep guests on named contacts and treat the public link as open registration.

Can a wedding guest change their RSVP or meal choice after submitting it?

Guest self-service and host editing are different things. For guests, Greenvelope's FAQ describes an event setting that, when enabled, lets a guest return to their invitation link before the RSVP deadline and change their response, guest count, or meal choice, and an Evite guest can resubmit from the original invitation. Host editing is documented more widely: Greenvelope hosts record changes from the Track step, Joy hosts edit meals and other answers on the guest list, Paperless Post hosts edit the RSVP and question answers in the guest details panel, Bliss and Bone hosts edit reply details in the guest row, and Evite hosts update attendance and party count, with poll answers not described. A host's ability to edit an answer does not establish that a guest can change it themselves.

Does an invitation with no recorded open mean it went to spam?

No. A missing open proves only that no open was recorded: the guest may not have checked their mail yet, a mail client that blocks tracking pixels can keep a real open from registering, or the message may be in another folder, and Gmail's Promotions tab is an inbox category rather than spam. The absence of a recorded bounce is not proof of delivery either, so read the delivery status by the platform's own definition, then ask the guest to search their mailbox for the event or sender name.
